Mosaic to debut on Hung Kings’ anniversary

A giant mosaic made from 1,400 pottery paintings with the theme Ngay hoi non song tren dat To (National festival in the ancestors’ land) will be unveiled at Hung Kings Temple Historical Relic in Phu Tho Province on the Hung Kings’ anniversary on April 12 (the tenth day of the third lunar month).

The painting, which is 72 meters long and 9.9 meters high, has a frame made from cement and steel featuring images of a dragon, phoenix, Lac Long Quan and Au Co and their children and festival activities. The painting will be set up at the central stage under Phan Dau Hill of the Hung Kings Temple.

The piece, which cost VND24 billion, was created by artists Le Ngoc Han and Mai Van Ke, architect Ngo Thanh Tung and Huu Nghi Arts Company. It was drafted in 1998 and has been in construction since last year at Bat Trang pottery village in Hanoi.

Phu Tho Province also repaired Ha (lower) Temple and Gieng (well) Temple located in the Hung Kings Temple complex to prepare for this year’s anniversary.

In August 2001 lecturers and artists of the HCMC Fine Arts University created another pottery painting which has been tagged the largest painting in Vietnam and sits in Ben Duoc Temple in HCMC’s Cu Chi District. The work has a theme on the history and development of Saigon-Gia Dinh land to the liberation day of the South in 1975. It took four years to complete.
