UNESCO commission furthers Vietnam’s cultural values

Vietnam’s National Commission to UNESCO has made a big effort to get Vietnam’s landscapes recognised as world cultural heritages, which will help to develop, preserve and increase the country’s cultural values.

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thanh Son stated this at a conference in Hanoi on April 29, which reviewed the commission’s work in 2008 and the first quarter of 2009 and discuss its major tasks for the year ahead.

He said that in the future the commission should work closer with specialist sub-committees and secretariats when submitting Vietnamese heritage sites to UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris for recognition.

The commission’s first task is to reorganise its structure and operational mechanisms, he said, adding that it should also pay close attention to sharing and disseminating information.
