Vietnam, Japan promote folk cultural exchange

Vietnamese and Japanese folk cultures were highlighted in a festival held at the Tokyo-based National Theatre of Japan on Feb. 18.

The festival was co-organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs as part of the International Folk Performance Festival, which took place in Tokyo and Osaka.

Vietnam was the only representative from Asian to be selected by Japan to attend the festival.

Vietnamese artists introduced Japanese audiences to a series of special folk song performances popular in Vietnam, such as cheo, quan ho, xam and chau van.

The event was of great significance, aimed at promoting cultural exchange between Vietnam and Japan, as well as marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.
