Vietnam Buddhism

Buddhism is the main and longest – existing religion in Vietnam. According to the statistic of the Government of Religions Affairs, Buddhist occupies the greatest amount of Vietnamese people who follow the religion.

Buddhism appealed to Vietnam since the early age of history. It is the first religion happening in Vietnam and get the support of many Vietnamese people. At the beginning of Buddhism in Vietnam, Theravada – The school of the Elders, played the dominant role. By the time, there are some other religions coming to Vietnam, Buddhism exists in parallel with Taoism and Confucianism.

Under the reign of Ly Dynasty and Tran Dynasty, Buddhism flourished and reached the official position in Vietnam religion. Until now, the existence of other religions has made the number of Vietnamese people following Buddhism decrease. However, Buddhism is still considered the main religion in Vietnam and gives a certain effect to Vietnamese’s lives to some extent.

There are many pagodas and temples in Buddhism in Vietnamsuch as: Bo De Pagoda, Hai Ba Trung Pagoda, One Pillar Pagoda, Perfume Pagoda, Tran Quoc Pagoda, Giac Lam Pagoda, Giac Lam Pagoda, Quan Am Pagoda, An Quang Pagoda, Thien Mu Pagoda. On the first days of months and 15th days of moths, there are many people who go to pagodas to worship and pray for health and job of members in their family and their relatives. Going to pagodas, people feel more peaceful and tranquil, they get the time to free their worries and sadness as well as think about positive and optimistic things.
